RENOVARÉ Fall 2006 Prayer Guide

The Shepherd's Heart:
A Renovaré Prayer Guide for a Time of Transition
Fall and Winter 2006

How to Use this Renovaré Prayer Guide

You are invited to join the Renovaré Ministry Team, Board of Trustees, staff, and key pray-ers and supporters as we pray for our continuing work. We are right now at a critical juncture in the Renovaré ministry. We are seeking God’s good and right direction as we ask many questions:
• What makes Renovaré, Renovaré?
• How can Renovaré best serve the Church?
In what ways can we fuel, resource and model the growing Christian spiritual formation movement?
• What will change?
• What are the next steps?

We look to God, because in Him we live and move and have our being.
We look to Jesus, our Savior, Teacher, Lord and Friend to walk with us and help us find the way.
We look to the Holy Spirit for wisdom and guidance.

Will you join us as we pray? Asking. Listening. Responding.

Pray for our Ministry Team and Board of Trustees . . .
. . . that we would have divine clarity.

Pray for our leadership . . .
. . . that God would guide us.

Pray for our work . . .
. . . that we will do only what God intends.

The scripture passages and readings were selected to help us focus our attention on God. The questions for consideration are intended to help us develop a deeper awareness of how we respond to God’s abiding presence. The suggested prayer is simply a beginning point for your prayer for the day. We invite you to begin your daily reflections with these elements, to listen for God speaking.

The devotional guide is divided into six sections. One section for each of six weeks. A reading is provided for Monday through Friday. There are no readings for Saturday or Sunday. These are days for reflection and rest.

You may want to use the daily reading as your morning devotion. Read slowly and look for a phrase or idea that catches your attention. During the day return to the phrase or idea and ponder its meaning for you. Dietrich Bonhoeffer writes in Life Together that the "prayer of the morning will determine the day." Experience will teach you that this is true. As the day ends "you may choose to close the day as you have opened it." This is the time to reflect on the day and the questions for consideration. With Jesus as Teacher and Friend, walk back through the events of the day and consider how God has been with you to help and guide you in both seen and unseen ways. Respond with gratitude and adoration. There will be times when God will gently remind you of areas in your lives that need attention; respond by asking for help and forgiveness and by extending forgiveness.
We are all learning to be more sensitive to the Spirit’s movement in our lives. It is in this way that the unity and rhythm of the day is discovered. End the day by asking God to be with you through the watches of the night.

"The day is yours, and yours also the night . . ." — Psalm 74:16

To God alone be the glory.
