THE JESUS WAY
recovering the lost content of discipleship

“To follow Jesus implies that we enter into a way of life that is given character and shape and direction by the one who calls us. To follow Jesus means picking up rhythms and ways of doing things that are often unsaid but always derivative from Jesus, formed by the influence of Jesus. To follow Jesus means that we can't separate what Jesus is saying from what Jesus is doing and the way that he is doing it.”

— Eugene Peterson, THE JESUS WAY

An Invitation from Richard J. Foster and Christopher Webb
Dear Friend,

What is "The Jesus Way"? Who has this way of life? Where do we learn it? How is it different from the life we already know? Why should we care?

June 21-24, 2009, in San Antonio, Texas, at a RENOVARÉ International Conference on Spiritual Renewal, Eugene Peterson, Dallas Willard, John Ortberg, and other prominent speakers and participants will be exploring questions such as these. We will be pushing hard to rediscover and renew the connection between our everyday lives and lifelong, intentional discipleship to Jesus. At the conference, our language for describing this way of life will be "The Jesus Way."

Now, you might ask yourself, "I'm already a Christian, right? Am I not already on ‘The Jesus Way'?" Yes you are. Yes we are. Mostly. For sure we have some of it right on. But the culture around us is so pervasive, and the historical and contemporary life of faith and devotion so deep and wide, we know there is more to be learned, embraced, and incarnated into everyday life. We so want The Jesus Way to be our way, and we think this conference will help us attain it.

We are especially enthused over the leaders and content for our time together. General Session speakers Caliguire, Griffin, Kang, Ortberg, Peterson, Rasmus, Smith, Willard, and others—this is a great lineup! Eight workshop tracks that ruminate at length on the content of intentionality in Christian spiritual formation for various areas of everyday life: arts, home, school, business, church, lifelong discipleship, postmodern culture, and spiritual direction. 35+ introductory workshops on the basics of Christian faith and practice from the perspective of lifelong discipleship to Jesus. Enriching worship. Conversations galore. It promises to be a grand and deepening time together.

And, all the better, the conference will be held on the River Walk in beautiful downtown San Antonio, Texas, at the historic Municipal Auditorium and in the nicely appointed Hyatt Regency River Walk Hotel. We will arrive in Texas a few days early, and likely will stay a few days late. We hope you will, too.

Most of all, we do hope that you will join us at the International Conference in June 2009. See you there.

Peace and joy,
Richard J. Foster

Every Blessing,
Christopher S. Webb, TSSF
