A
brisk 10-minute walk by street, a leisurely 20-minute
walk by river, or a quick shuttle ride for those who
need it, the City of San Antonio Municipal Auditorium
is an historic structure built in 1926 as a memorial
to World War I veterans. Located at one end of the River
Walk, it is an impressive and grand old structure. While
it does seat 5,000—with 3,000 on the floor and 2,000
in a balcony—it does not feel cavernous nor imposing.
Instead, the Municipal Auditorium hearkens back to the
day when public space was created both for classic beauty
and utility. Feeling and looking more like a place for
worship than a municipal facility, we cannot wish for
a better worship space for the conference.
