Become a "Companion on the Way" with DOK

The Order of the Daughters of the King (DOK) is a religious lay order for women comprised predominantly by those in the Anglican/Episcopal, Lutheran, and Roman Catholic traditions. In the spirit of Third Order Franciscans, Daughters incarnate lifelong vows of Prayer, Service, and Evangelism into their ordinary, everyday lives.

The Order began in 1885 in New York with seven women in a Bible Study. Foundational passages include Isaiah 11:2, Romans 10:17, and Matthew 28:16-20. The Great Commission has been a guiding force since inception, and the primary purpose of the Order is evangelism. Prayer is the basis for DOK work, and service comes out of answered prayer, directed by the Holy Spirit. Today Daughters are on every continent, with membership of approximately 26,000 women and girls. While the geographic location of Daughters ranges far and wide, the basic organizational structure is a Chapter in a local church.

"Streams of Living Water" was the theme for the DOK National Retreat in 2003 in Minneapolis, and Richard J. Foster, Emilie Griffin, and Felicia SmithGraybeal were the teachers at this event. Daughters pray for RENOVARÉ each day, and partnered with RENOVARÉ for the 2005 International Conference in Denver.

In the spirit of RENOVARÉ, DOK is offering their lay order model to all Christian women who are:

• Called to practice Prayer, Service, and Evangelism, and who wish to band together in a sister community within their specific denomination.

• Have made a commitment to God—Father, Son, and Holy Spirit—be it through baptism or other means.

• Under the supervision of their individual pastors.

If you wish to explore this unique opportunity to become a "Companion on the Way" with DOK by founding a Chapter, please contact Sharon Lundgren, DOK Companion on the Way Coordinator, at or PO Box 784, Taylor, TX, 76574. For more information about DOK please visit www.dok-national.org.
